Mustang Engines and Performance

The Mustang features a 2.3-liter turbo-four engine that makes 310 horsepower and 350 lb-ft of torque. Two optional 5.0-liter V8 engines are available with the GT and Mach 1, which make 460 to 480 horsepower, respectively, and 420 lb-ft of torque. The range-topper is a 5.2-liter supercharged V8 engine that produces 760 horsepower and 625 lb-ft of torque, which comes with the Shelby GT500 engine.

All models come in rear-wheel drive with a standard 6-speed manual or available 10-speed automatic transmission. The Shelby GT500 is the exception. It gets a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. The Mustang is athletic and exciting in any configuration, but you can enhance its performance with several packages that offer features like strut mounts, Brembo™ brakes, stability control, a performance wing, and a TORSEN® limited-slip differential.

Mustang Interior

The Mustang has seating for four people in two rows of seats. The outward visibility is excellent, giving the interior an airy feel. Leg and headroom are ample in the front and rear seats. Cloth seating is standard, but you can upgrade with leather upholstery, sport RECARO® seats, heated seats, and a heated steering wheel. Dual-zone automatic climate control and ambient interior lighting are available.

The fastback model has a large trunk that offers 13.5 cubic feet of space, which is more than many of its competitors. You can fit shopping bags, suitcases, and some golf bags. The convertible model offers an 11.4-cubic-foot trunk. The cabin has several small storage spaces as well, so passengers can stow their phones or keys.

Mustang Features

The Mustang comes with a SYNC® infotainment system and a 4.2-inch screen with voice commands. The upgraded SYNC® 3 system uses an 8-inch touchscreen with responsive inputs and sharp graphics. Android Auto™ and Apple CarPlay® smartphone integration are available, which allows you to access your phone’s features for on-the-go entertainment. Satellite radio, navigation, HD Radio™, and a Bang & Olufsen sound system are optional.

Numerous safety features are standard for the Mustang, such as automatic high-beam headlights, a rearview camera, and MyKey®, a system that lets you set speed limits and audio volume limits for young drivers. A forward-collision warning is included, which alerts you to possible collisions and activates the brakes automatically. A lane-departure warning is also standard, which alerts you if you drift out of your lane. Rear parking sensors and adaptive cruise control, a feature that maintains a safe distance from the vehicle ahead, are optional.
