Ford Escape Performance
With two gas engines and two hybrid powertrains to choose from, the 2021 Ford Escape offers an efficient and capable performance.
The base engine is a 1.5L EcoBoost® that generates up to 181 horsepower and 190 lb-ft of torque. There’s more to it than that though. To haul a little more cargo, there’s also an available 2.0L EcoBoost® engine. It uses its 250 horsepower and 280 lb-ft of torque to tow up to 3,500 pounds when properly equipped.
If you’re looking to make fewer stops for gas, you’ll be interested in the 2.5L 4-cylinder hybrid powertrain. This hybrid option achieves up to an EPA-estimated 44 city/37 highway/41 combined MPG. A plug-in hybrid model is also available that’ll cut you off from the pump completely.
Ford Escape Interior Dimensions
The 2021 Ford Escape features a comfortable interior. You’ll find 104 cubic feet of passenger space and lots of room to stretch out. The front seats feature 40 inches of headroom and 42.4 inches of legroom. Passengers in the rear row will be able to relax in 39.3 inches of headroom and 40.7 inches of legroom. The back row is also is wide enough for three people to sit together, with 56 inches of shoulder room.
The Escape also comes with a large trunk. With 37.5 cubic feet of cargo room, it’s easy to go grocery shopping, carry your golf bags, or bring your gear to the beach. If you need more room, you can use the 60/40 split-fold rear seats to create up to 65.4 cubic feet of cargo room.

The 2021 Ford Escape is prepared to keep you safe. It includes a Personal Safety System™, which features seatbelt pretensioners and seven airbags. There’s a pair of front airbags, front seat-mounted side-impact airbags, a driver knee airbag, and a Safety Canopy® System that covers both rows of seats.
While the interior is well protected, you can also count on Ford Co-Pilot360™ to help you avoid accidents. This available safety suite grants you more awareness during your drive as well as keeping another set of eyes on the road, so to speak.
The technology that it uses to look out for your SUV includes:
- Pre-Collision Assist with Automatic Emergency Braking
- BLIS® (Blind Spot Information System) with Cross-Traffic Alert
- Lane-Keeping System
- Auto High-Beam Headlamps
A Rear View Camera can help you back up safely. Just put your SUV in reverse and the dashboard monitor will give you a closer look at what’s behind you. It can even help you line up your Escape with a trailer.
