2019 Ford Ranger Engine Specs

Ford RangerThis isn’t just an engine that works hard—it also works smart with an innovative design that can get you up to an EPA-estimated fuel efficiency of 21 MPG city and 26 MPG highway.The 2019 Ranger is powered by a 2.3L EcoBoost® I-4 engine that delivers 270 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque. This turbocharged engine features a 16-valve design, chain-driven dual overhead cams, and a twin-scroll turbocharger as well as an overboost function that lifts output on every gear change.

The engine works together with a 10-speed automatic transmission with skip-shift and direct downshift capabilities that ensure you’re always operating in the right gear at the right time.

An available Sport mode provides improved acceleration and steering responsiveness while the SelectShift® capabilities let you change gears on demand in a limited manual mode when you want more control.

Ford Ranger Handling Capabilities and Drivetrain Specs

The Ford Ranger is up for any challenge thanks to its available 4-wheel drive (4WD) system.

This smart system actively monitors your driving conditions and automatically redistributes torque between all four wheels as necessary to help you keep a firm grip. The available 4WD systems also includes the Terrain Management System™.

The Terrain Management System™ works whether you’re operating in 4-High, 2-High, or 4-Low. It lets you choose between four different drive modes based on your specific challenges, including:

  • Normal
  • Grass/Gravel/Snow
  • Mud/Ruts
  • Sand

Normal mode is ideal for everyday driving on paved roads. If you’re towing to the beach, you can switch into Sand mode, which uses a more aggressive throttle progression and holds gears longer to help optimize torque and prevent excessive wheelspin.

Grass/Gravel/Snow mode delivers earlier upshifts to prevent wheelslip and Mud/Ruts mode limits transmission upshifts to keep the wheels spinning.

If you prefer to keep the standard specs, your truck will be outfitted with a lightweight and efficient 2-wheel drive (2WD) system.
